Shredded Hoisin Tofu Tacos with Tomato Salsa
Pictures: © Jasper Walter Bastian // The answer to "how to make tofu taste good?" Grated tofu is seasoned and baked until crispy, then tossed in a smoky sauce and served with fresh salsa verde. This is the tofu recipe that converts skeptics, perfect for Veganuary or any taco night!
Ingredients you'll need
For the Shredded Tofu:
- 400g firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt to taste
For the Sauce:
- 1 onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- Oil for frying
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1/2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
For the Tomato Salsa:
- A bunch of cilantro (or parsley)
- tomatos
- Juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
- Oil
- Salt to taste
For Serving:
- Tortillas
Let's get cookin'
- Pat tofu dry and shredd with grater or simply crumble in your hands.
- Mix Soy Sauce, Oil, Cumin, Paprika and salt to taste and toss the tofu in the marinade.
- Then spread on baking sheet and bake at 175°C (350°F) for 15-20 minutes. Give it a stir every now and then.
- Fry onion and garlic. When the tofu is crispy, transfer to pan and coat with Hoisin Sauce and Tomato paste and stir well. Add spices according to taste.
- Chop tomatoes, parsley/cilantro and mix with Oil and fresh lime jiuce.
- Now assemble everything on a tortilla, roll up and enjoy.
